Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is double-tracking?

Double-tracking is a recording technique that enhances the stereo width of a song. Here's the process in a nutshell:

Recording:

🎸 Record your guitar onto a track

🎸 Re-record the same guitar part again onto a separate track

Editing:

🔊 Pan the 1st guitar track to the LEFT side of the stereo field

🔊 Pan the 2nd guitar track to the RIGHT side of the stereo field

There will be subtle differences between how the two takes are played. These subtle differences in timing, volume and string vibration create the 'doubling effect'. Simply put 'double-tracking' is a recording technique that creates a pleasantly wide sense of stereo separation for a song.

2. What are the applications of Realistic Double Tracking?

• The most typical application is doubling rhythm guitar parts

• Take it a step further and you can also double your leads

• Finally, the most creative way is to integrate it into a stereo rig!
